i find the images created by dutch photographer ruud van empel particularly haunting. his technique of photoshop photo collage and deep color saturation make for work totally unique. surreal. dali approved.

Bertoia Sculpture

harry bertoia. best known for his eponymous chair design, but it’s the sculptures that make me swoon. with names like ‘willow’ and ‘bronzed bush’, the works are beautifully lyrical and the welding workmanship flawless. primarily produced mid-twentieth century, bertoia sculptures are now mainly found at auction. want one? you’ll need to save your benjamins.

Girl With a Pearl Earring

ah…the dutch. johannes vermeer. master painter of light and shadow. he, naturally, didn’t get much respect during his lifetime. circa 1665, girl with a pearl earring, his most famous work and masterpiece recently on view in nyc. i saw her…and she saw me…on her extreme left out of the corner of her eye. simply breathtaking. she thought so too. selfie!

The Glass House

philip johnson’s minimal masterpiece. new canaan, connecticut. 1,792 square feet of perfection. you might want to rethink that mcmansion.
George Balanchine
the father of modern ballet. co founder of nyc ballet. balanchine choreographed the historic discipline of the russian school with all that he found fresh and quintessentially american. a perfect pas de deux. a modern classic. dance as we know it would not exist without ‘mr. b’.
