The Quilts of Gee’s Bend

a few years ago at the philadelphia museum, i viewed an amazing installation of the quilts of gee’s bend. i was reminded of them again last month at the national museum of african american history and culture.

although…at five figures each…i’ll plan to have one in my next lifetime.

cultural chic!

Traccia Table

congratulations are in order. i’ve checked the meret oppenheim traccia table off my wish list.

traccia – 2013

whenever i’ve seen this piece in photos en-situ, i’ve wondered about each respective owner. brave. daring. unafraid. yeah. definitely unafraid. count me amongst them. i imagine mrs. vreeland would approve.

LAKIN OGUNBANWO – Photographer

red hook labs in brooklyn recently presented a show from 21st century nigerian photographer lakin ogunbanwo. in the portraits, presented in oversized scale, the subjects are indistinguishable. identically stripped bare, individuality is expressed through the power of fashion. in this case…the simplicity of a hat.

choose one 36 x 48 inch image, install it in a modernist, masculine interior. one word: powerful. another word: chic.

Sottsass Vase 503

sottsass 503 vase

the only item from memphis designer ettore sottsass that’s not too playful for my taste. designed in 1959, in classic black and white matte ceramic, vase 503 is 18″ tall and 6″ in diameter. large enough to get noticed…she adds the right amount of chic when standing asymmetrically on your favorite low table. still produced in italy by bitossi ceramiche.
