i had the pleasure of meeting david adjaye a couple years ago. i am in awe of his talent. this amazing tanzanian architect has designed what will be the last of the smithsonian museums on the mall in washington dc. fittingly, it is the national museum of african american history and culture due to be completed and dedicated before president obama leaves office.

Necklace – Irene Neuwirth

necklace - irene neuwirth

…tis a pity no one ever invites me to the academy awards, grammys, tonys, or emmys. if they did, i’d totally rock this irene neuwirth necklace. it says, “i am a playful force to be reckoned with.”

genius.

on bare skin, to show off my clavicle to its best effect. or maybe on a white tee shirt. i wouldn’t want anyone to think i was trying too hard.

i await my invite…

Sottsass Vase 503

sottsass 503 vase

the only item from memphis designer ettore sottsass that’s not too playful for my taste. designed in 1959, in classic black and white matte ceramic, vase 503 is 18″ tall and 6″ in diameter. large enough to get noticed…she adds the right amount of chic when standing asymmetrically on your favorite low table. still produced in italy by bitossi ceramiche.

NUIT DE NOEL – HAPPY CLUB 1963 – SIDIBE

re-blogging this post from 2013 in memory of mr. sidibe…

image from malian photographer malick sidibe. black and white photography is always a modern addition. gradated layers, grainy and sharp, bring the two dancers to life. looks as though they like each other. peas n carrots perfection.
